Do you collect anything?
Climbing shoes? Lol
What is your most unusual talent?
I am incapable of close-hand crimping.
What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
I once drove a friend’s BMW down the highway at 150+ MPH.
Why do you like working with Gnarly?
I really like how the company has had a diverse list of athletes who represent their brand. The company has also expressed willingness to be a more outspoken advocate for social and cultural issues within the climbing community and beyond.
Outside of your respective sport, what are you most proud of?
Over the past few months I have realized that my voice can have an empowering effect
on the climbing community and the nation as a whole. There was a time when I thought my voice had little influence or impact on other people’s lives or actions, so seeing how people have positively responded to my perspectives and thoughts has been encouraging.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pho… or Pad Thai… or any type of curry or pretty much any traditional Asian dish you can think of.
Who is your hero? Why?
Rorschach from the Watchmen graphic novel. He’s one of the few superheroes out there who is truly virtuous.
Any advice for aspiring athletes?
Take your time.
Gnarly Pump in Orange Mango. I’ll typically add a scoop to a 32 fl oz bottle and drink an hour before a workout session. The energy provided helps me power through longer bouldering sessions, especially if I’m focusing on limit bouldering or power movement. Oh, and the taste of the Orange Mango is dope.
Gnarly Whey in Chocolate. The taste, oh my god THE TASTE. The coconut and chocolate mixed together gives off a nice, natural tasting “sweetness” to it without being overbearing. I also like how easily the powder mixes in my shaker bottle (i.e. no clumps).
