Causes I care about

PFIC – PROGRESSIVE FAMILIAL INTRAHEPATIC CHOLESTASIS. This is a rare liver disease that affects less than 1 in 100,00 people. Mostly found in children. I became aware of this disease and its desperate need for funding and research from my good friend Cedar Ventura who was diagnosed with PFIC at a very young age. Please read more at https://www.pfic.org.

Do you collect anything?

I’d love to collect shoes, but most of my money goes to rock climbing and traveling. So no, but I wish…

What is your most unusual talent?

Read that Hobbies section back. I get buckets.

What is the scariest thing you have ever done?

Psicobloc Masters in Park City, Utah. Climbing 50 feet above water is obviously scary and intimidating. But I found the massive cheering crowds and climbing competitively against my heroes was TERRIFYING. I’m more accustomed to being out in the woods with a few peers, so this different environment was scary. FACE YOUR FEARS, THEY MAKE YOU BETTER.

Why do you like working with Gnarly?

Gnarly products help me perform better and recover quicker. My nutrition habits have gotten significantly better with the support of their incredibly educated staff and amazing products. To be great it takes a village, and having the support from Gnarly feels like I have a team pushing me forward.

Outside of your respective sport, what are you most proud of?

Graduating High School- School was one of the hardest battles of my life, I dealt with anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I almost dropped out. Walking across that stage and receiving my diploma could have easily been the answer to the above question “What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?”

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My life goal is to fill a pool with chocolate pudding and swim in it. No joke.

Who is your hero? Why?

LeBron James. I firmly believe he is the greatest athlete of my generation. His accomplishments in basketball are unprecedented and I’m constantly inspired by his greatness. To be that great requires a work ethic to match. Beyond that, he’s a caring and passionate father, and his outreach to underprivileged communities makes a massive difference in this wild world.

Any advice for aspiring athletes?

Have goals and then chase them. That direction is massive, but then you have to work everyday to reach those dreams. Recognize and give back to your communities. Being a valuable and respected member of your community is a greater asset than any social media analytics.

I recommend…

I use the Gnarly Whey after a hard climbing day or after a long rest day hike. I love the taste, which keeps my sweet tooth away from candy or ice cream. This product is clutch for my muscles to recover after a hard day. I travel often, so sometimes getting good clean protein can be difficult. This makes my life easier and helps me perform better.

I use the Gnarly BCAAs on all of my climbing days. I drink it throughout the day so that a small dose of caffeine helps keep my energy up. I’ve noticed a significant amount of increased recovery from taking this product. My muscles consistently feel better over the long haul, and during the day to day I’ve found that I experience less muscle cramps.
