Do you collect anything?
Yes! Lots of memories and photos when I’m climbing!
What is your most unusual talent?
I’m really good at guessing things. Mostly ages and numbers, but other facts as well. I think I might be psychic.
What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
Soloing this thin pillar of ice. My lower tool popped out as the ice broke at the same time as both my feet broke the ice I was standing on… I was dangling by one tool 50 feet off the deck.
Why do you like working with Gnarly?
The people at Gnarly are so down to earth. The company is approachable and pursues excellence and it really shows in the products. Literally the best supplements I’ve ever used.
Outside of your respective sport, what are you most proud of?
So far, climbing the RNWF route on Half Dome.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ethiopian food. I crave the food my mom makes at her restaurant in Spokane everyday.
Who is your hero? Why?
Cliche, but my parents. They started with nothing – my dad grew up in Compton poverty as a first generation Samoan with seven siblings. My mom was an immigrant in her 20’s. They worked incredibly hard to move our family out of Los Angeles to Washington, a way better place to grow up, with positive influences of education and the outdoors.
Any advice for aspiring athletes?
Work hard. Whatever your passion, do it even when you feel tired and unmotivated. It builds character and preps you for adversity in the future.
BCAAs – They taste amazing – like real lemonade. After a long day training and climbing, the soreness and muscle stress they alleviate is distinctly noticeable the next day! I drink the BCAAs on my way to climb, during, and once I get home. Performance Greens-Everything good all in one supplement. It replaces supplemental pills and vitamins, and tastes great in smoothies. I really love all of the plants that help fight inflammation. I like to mix the greens with fruit in the morning for breakfast, along with some vanilla protein.
