My name is Krissy Mae Cagney and I am a USAPL powerlifter currently based in New York City. Unfortunately I don’t get paid to lift weights competitively, so I am also a writer, strength coach, and performance nutritionist most day out of the year. I was introduced into the fitness world at a young age as both of of parents were triathletes in Hawaii in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Upon moving to Reno, my parents continued as athletes, and I began working as a personal trainer as a college job for 6 years. Battling severe drug addiction and alcoholism from the age of 16, I found fitness was the only thing that kept me holding on through troublesome times as an addict. My love for fitness brought me into the bodybuilding world where I first became fascinated by what the human physique is capable of. Still very young, I was focussed solely on aesthetics in my early 20s as a trainer. In 2012, I discovered CrossFit and I was hooked on functional fitness. I was offered a job as a coach at Rise Above Fitness in Orange County. It was here where my passion flourished and gained valued knowledge about strength training and human performance. It was also here that I found the strength to get completely sober from drugs and alcohol. In December of 2013, I moved to New York City in pursue bigger things for myself. I started Doughnuts & Deadlifts, a lifestyle brand, as well as Black Iron LLC, an athletic performance company specializing in performance nutrition and strength & conditioning programming for athletes. In February of 2015, I released the first flexible dieting book written for athletes. When I am not writing and programming, I am getting ready for my next powerlifting lifting meet.
Born in Hawaii, but Reno, NV will always be home

Writing a nutrition book that sold 10,000 copies in less 6 months. Getting voted one of the 30 Most Inspirational People Under 30 by Fitocracy. Getting sober from drugs and alcohol (my career wouldn’t be where it is if I were still drinking and using).
If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I am very well traveled and I currently have everything crossed off my bucket list. So now I am on a mission to take Mr. Drew Canavero (fellow sponsored athlete and boyfriend, thanks to Gnarly) to all my favorite places I have visited over the years.
What’s your favorite party trick?
My story telling skills. I have better stories than anyone and I tell them well (thats the one good thing that comes from a decade of alcoholism and addiction… great stories). I am known as a “Tammy Topper” and a “One Upper” by everyone because every story that gets told, I can top. #LifeOfTheParty even after I quit drinking.

Krissy Cagney Recommends
“I use Gnarly products because they are the highest quality. As an athlete I want to perform and recover optimally, and Gnarly allows me to do both. In the pursuit to be the best, I need to be fueled by the best. I drink the BCAAs throughout the day to maximize muscle protein synthesis and aide recovery. I take Gnarly Pump pre-training and it doesn’t give me the crackhead paranoia that other well known pre-workouts have provided me with in the past. I supplement my diet with Gnarly Vegan protein to ensure I am getting enough quality protein throughout the day. The micronutrient profile in unlike anything I’ve ever seen in the supplement industry; it’s a true superfood.”
