My inspiration for this smoothie came from a recipe for Golden Milk, an Ayurvedic staple that has been part of Indian culture and medicine for thousands of years.
Incorporating cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and cardamom, this recipe is full of ingredients that are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Plus – adding a little Gnarly protein makes it the perfect recovery shake for an athlete.
Use Gnarly Vegan or Whey protein and feel free to substitute a milk of your choosing for the coconut milk used here. Also – if you prefer things less sweet, eliminate either (or both) the banana and the dates – but remember, those carbs are important for replenishing glycogen stores and optimizing recovery.
Ingredients:
12oz coconut milk (any milk works well here)
1/2 frozen banana
2 dates
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
2 scoops vanilla protein (vegan or whey) powder
Put everything in your blender and BLEND! Adding ice isn’t necessary, but definitely gives the smoothie a bit of frothiness (if you’re into that kind of thing).
ENJOY!
