A new study out of the UK has found some interesting data when it comes to the citrus juice found in grapefruits, tomatoes, and oranges. Researchers have discovered that naringenin, a flavonoid found in these foods regulates a protein in the body that decreases growths from kidney cysts –a cause of kidney failure.

There has also been some recent evidence that drinking a glass of orange juice a day is associated with a 12 percent lower chance of developing kidney stones. Apparently the potassium citrate found in orange juice helps the body in preventing calcium crystals forming in kidneys. These calcium crystals can collect along with other materials and form kidney stones. Which nobody wants. I don’t, anyway.

So here’s a great smoothie recipe that combines our Vicious Vanilla Gnarly Whey with some citrus awesomeness to give your kidneys a bit of a health boost:

Citrus Is Gnarly Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 banana (frozen)

  • 13/4 tbsps lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup juice (tangerine, orange, grapefruit)

  • 11/2 tbsps honey

  • 2 scoops Gnarly Vicious Vanilla Whey

  • 3/5 cup ice (cubes)

  • 1/2 tangerine, orange, grapefruit (1 peeled)

Blend it up, Denizens and enjoy the weekend!
