Hobbies

Cooking, reading (primarily nonfiction), and doing puzzles. Ice climbing and skiing in the winter, because winter is long in Montana and you have to stay busy.

Causes I Care About

I’ve worked for multiple organizations that are dedicated to outdoor, place-based education for kids. Getting young people outside (whether it’s to climb or just explore), is an important component to the future protection and preservation of wild places.

Q&A

Do you collect anything? I’ve got a great collection of coffee mugs, many of which have a story behind them. Many are handmade, and some come from various travels around the world. What is your most unusual talent? I’m good at bird identification, especially birds of prey. I do pretty well identifying wildflowers, too. Basically I’m a nerd. What is the scariest thing you have ever done? In the past I was the executive director of a local nonprofit. This experience was exhilarating and empowering, but also stressful and scary at the same time. Why do you like working with Gnarly? The type of high quality products Gnarly offers fits my needs to a t. Also, the folks behind the scenes at Gnarly are passionate about what they do and operate with a ton of integrity. Outside of your respective sport, what are you most proud of? I’m most proud of rolling with life’s punches and constantly honing in on the things that matter--getting outside, saying yes to adventures, and spending quality time with friends and family. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Pizza. Unapologetically, pizza every day. Who is your hero? Why? Mardy Murie was an early conservationist during a time where women didn’t commonly pursue careers in the outdoors. Among other things, she did important work leading to the passage of the Wilderness Act. Any advice for aspiring athletes? Try and maintain a growth mindset, even when it seems like you’ve read everything there is to read, and listened to all the podcasts available. Viewing each session in your given sport/passion as an opportunity to learn something will set you up for success. I recommend... I use a bunch of Gnarly products but the two that are most helpful for me are the pre workout and the whey protein. Normally I use the caffeinated pre workout to give me an extra boost, especially if I’m climbing later in the day or after work. It helps keep intensity high and fatigue at a minimum. After a workout or even on a rest day, Gnarly Whey is easy on my stomach and delivers much needed protein to my system so I can train hard the next day.
